Research Grants Pilot Funding The pilot project funding program is designed to provide researchers with the seed money needed to generate primary data that can be used in extramural funding applications. Funding can be used within the Center or at the applicant's home institution, depending on the project outline and goals. As this program is designed to generate future extramural support for the participant, priority will be given to individuals with excellent research questions, some research experience, and departmental and university level support at the home institution. Individuals interested in this opportunity should complete the Application for Pilot funding, an NIH-style biosketch (see http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html), and contact the NSMRC. We are currently only accepting applications from individuals who hold tenure track faculty positions at their institutions who are eligible to serve as a principal investigator on NIH grants. Strong preference is given to applications from institutions that will accept an 8% indirect cost rate for these modest grants. Support Level Individual grants can be funded up to $25,000.00 for 12 months. Detailed budgets will be requested after the preliminary proposal have been reviewed. Dates and Deadlines Proposals will be accepted continuously through 2014. The beginning of the budget year is June 1st and projects will be funded until each year's pilot project budget has been spent. Therefore, we encourage investigators to submit their proposals by May 31st for funding during the academic year.
